Getting started

What is Excel Test Zone?
Excel Test Zone is Australia’s leading online test practice platform for primary and lower secondary students. It supports students in Years 1 to 9 with targeted preparation for NAPLAN, Opportunity Class, Selective School and Scholarship tests, as well as year round skills development through Online Assessment Test Packs.

Our Test Packs are accessible on all digital devices and are designed to reflect the format and style of real exams. Most tests are instantly marked and include detailed explanations and national average rankings, helping students track their progress and build confidence over time.

Excel Test Zone is developed by the same experienced educators behind the trusted Excel workbooks and Study Guides, used by Australian students for more than 30 years.
Are the Test Packs helpful throughout the whole school year?
Yes! Our Test Packs are designed to support learning beyond exam preparation and can be used throughout the entire school year.

NAPLAN, Opportunity Class and Selective School–style Test Packs help students build familiarity with test formats while strengthening skills in key subject areas. Our Online Assessment Test Packs are aligned to the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 and are ideal for ongoing practice across core areas such as Comprehension, Language, Number and Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability.

Tests can be repeated as often as needed, making them suitable for regular homework, revision and skill development across the year.
Are Test Pack questions the same as Excel workbooks?
The questions are completely different. Excel Test Zone is designed to complement the Excel workbooks, with all questions written to reflect the formats used in real tests. This allows students to use both resources together while practising a broad range of question types.

Please note, a maximum of three free trials can be redeemed per parent account, per annum.
Are fully worked solutions provided with the free trial?

Why can't I find an Excel Test Zone app?
The Excel Test Zone app is no longer supported and is not available for new customers. It has not been available to download from app stores since July 2022.

Test Pack refunds are subject to our refund policy.

Using the platform

How do I allocate my Test Pack?
If you have any unallocated Test Packs or free trials, you will see an alert banner on your dashboard within your parent account. This banner will remain visible until all packs have been allocated.

You can also view all of your subscriptions at any time on the My Test Packs page.

To see exactly how to allocate your Test Pack, watch the short video tutorial, which guides you through the process step by step.
How do I submit a test?
Tests can only be submitted while logged into a student account. If you see a 'Go Back' button at the end of a test, it means you are logged into a parent account.

To submit a test, log in using the student account username and password.
Where can I find student results?
To view a student’s results:

1. Go to the Students page.
2. Select the student from the list.
3. Click View Report to access their results.
Can I add more than one student to a Test Pack?
Each Test Pack can only be allocated to one student. Once it has been assigned, it cannot be reallocated to another student.

However, you can update a student’s name, username, or password at any time through the Students page if changes are needed.
What does 'Rank' mean within the test results?
Rank shows how a student’s result compares with other students across Australia who have completed the same test. It helps students see their relative performance and understand where they stand in comparison to their peers.

3. Refresh the page, or perform a hard refresh by pressing Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows.
4. Try using a different browser, such as Google Chrome.
5. Ask your child to log in using their own student details, which loads directly to the Student Dashboard and can be faster.

We endeavour to update our tests as soon as possible after changes are made to test formats or question types, so students can practise with content that reflects current exam styles.

Our experienced authors have written thousands of carefully graded questions designed to closely match the format and style used in NAPLAN tests, NSW Opportunity Class Placement Tests, NSW Selective High School Placement Tests, and ACER Scholarship tests. Please note that these are not past paper questions. They are original questions created to reflect the types of questions students are likely to encounter in their actual exams.
What should I do after my child finishes all tests in a Test Pack?
Test Packs provide 365 days of access, so students can continue using them for revision throughout the year. We recommend repeating tests to strengthen skills, improve results, and stay prepared for upcoming exams.

You may also choose to purchase the next year level to help your child prepare for the school year ahead.
What should I do if I find a mistake in a question?
If you believe you have found an error in a question, answer or explanation, please first double check the worked solution and explanation provided.

If you still think there is an issue, please contact us here. Our team will review it carefully and investigate as needed. We appreciate feedback from parents, students and teachers, as it helps us maintain the quality and accuracy of our Test Packs.
