The Opportunity Class (OC) Placement Test is for Year 4 students in NSW seeking entry to Opportunity Classes in Year 5. OC classes cater for intellectually gifted and high potential students across 87 NSW schools. The test assesses Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills to identify students suited for accelerated learning.
OC placement is highly competitive, with limited spots available across NSW Opportunity Class schools. Students are ranked based on their test performance, school assessment, and other factors.
Regular practice with OC-style questions and past papers helps students become familiar with the Opportunity Class test format, question types, and time constraints. Building skills in reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking gives students confidence and improves performance on test day.
The Opportunity Class Placement Test for 2026 will be held on 8-9 May. Applications for the OC test typically open in Year 4 earlier in the year (around March-April), and schools will notify families of specific application deadlines. Results are usually released in late July. Check the NSW Department of Education website for exact 2026 OC test dates.
